TERRY REID
Musician Pub 22nd September 2024
What a great night at The Musician Pub last night in the company of the legendary TERRY REID with the great steel guitar player, Matt.
Terry was the first act i saw, back in 1969 (on a bill with Savoy Brown and Jethro Tull) when I started my quest to see as many bands artists as possible!!... lamentably I hadn't really followed him since, but I now realise I missed out on something special!!
Terry delivered just short of 2-1/4 hours of music and tales and kept the large audience wrapt for the whole show.
Playing simply with guitar (both acoustic and electric) and his voice, and accompanied by Matt, a sublime pedal steel player... and the "Superlungs" tag still holds, he was in great voice.
From the opening song, "Mr Moonlight" to the closing "Seed of Memory" Terry gave us a series of covers and original songs, all delivered with the same gusto and commitment.
In between the songs Terry's banter was full of information and fun... telling tales not of the song, but of the artists working with him on the song, in particular tales of Rick Danko, Bobby Darin, Ahmet Ertegun, Graham Nash and the Wilsons (Beach Boys).
Included in the covers were the Band's "It makes no Difference",
Bobby Darin's. "Splish Splash" and an outstanding version of "Dont Worry Baby" (Beach Boys) which he first performed at a charity show to honour Carl Wilson.
It is hard to believe that this was only the third gig playing with Matt, the connection between musicians, and with the audience, was outstanding throughout as Terry delivered his songs and tales with great energy, a real sense of fun and many a mischievous chuckle and aside...
A really great performance which the whole crowd loved... absolutely great night!!
