Peter Bruntnell Band

PETER BRUNTNELL BAND
Musician Pub 11th September 2024

Another gig tonight at The Musician Pub, tonight with the Peter Bruntnell Band.

Peter started by apologising for having a cold, then explained that the band were going to do a short support set to warm up before coming back for their own show... he said that they would play the first set below par to look like a support band... i thought he was joking... but the first short set was really not too good... in fact quite dreary.. it did however have a couple of well chosen covers in "Down by the River" (Neil Young) and "Debris" (Ronnie Lane)
When the band came back for the the second , their main, set there was a totally different feel... everything was crisper, more energetic and incredibly good!
Mick on drums powered through the set, playing with finesse and power and driving the band on. Peter's bass playing is outstanding... forming a tight powerful rhythm section with Mick and playing superb pounding bass.
On the other side of the stage Dave played electric guitar... no frills or outrageous soloing but quality ensemble playing with some really fine runs in there.
At the front Peter Bruntnell played great guitar and sang so well... his voice coming over strong and clear with a little "edge" that makes it perfect for the americana/rock that the band play. He also writes some very fine songs..
This second set started off really well and seemed to get stronger as it progressed, ending with a terrific rocking piece which rocked along like crazy...
As the band ended they left the stage for Peter to play a gentle solo piece before returning for a final piece of rocking americana.
Forget the short first set.. .Peter and the band delivered a cracking good set of americana rock.. hugely enjoyable set by a really great band.
keep music live... keep music real... support your local venues
