Heartland Roots Band

HEARTLAND ROOTS BAND
Musician Pub 6th September 2024

First gig i've been to in a week... and it was to the The Musician Pub to see the Heartland Roots Band.

The band have long been a favourite, but i hadn't seen them for over a year, and this was the first time with the current line-up featuring Steve on bass and Sam back on vocals.
The band work their butts off playing with huge commitment and energy throughout.
The set was a well balanced mix of HRB classics and new (to me at least) material and the new material also looks destined to become firm favourites with the followers
Musically HRB are a fine band... Pauls crisp fluent drumming drives along wonderfully, i have long admired Steve's bass playing with his previous band, and he really shows his qualities in this band. Guitarists Lee and Adie rock along in fine style playing some great stuff, while Anna's keyboards add depth and texture. Up front Sam is in great form singing with power and conviction.
Overall however, although the band were firing on all cylinders the gig was for me very disappointing...the "roots" and "country" elements of the music have been at least marginalised and replaced by a basic rock which for me at least became a bit ordinary and undistinguished
Keep music live... keep music real.. .support your local venues
