MICHAEL MORROW & THE CULPRITS/STEVIE JONES
DUFFY'S 8TH OCTOBER 2026
What a night that was at Duffy's Bar... superb music, great vibe and great friends!...
Opening up was Stevie Jones... most people who know me know that I rate Stevie as one of the best, and nicest fellas, in the business... and his set last night was an absolute gem, concentrating on older Stevie Jones and The Wildfires material, delivered simply with acoustic guitar and voice. A selection of great songs played with warmth and assurance... an absolute delight and a superb set
Headlining was the very welcome return to Leicester of Michael Morrow & The Culprits. The band had only landed in England early that morning, had a three hour rehearsal and straight on to the gig... despite that they hit the stage and delivered a scorching set of rock'n'roll... huge energy and passion and great musicianship from start to finish. This was rock''n'roll as it should be delivered, passionate, raw and with great variety and musicianship.
The set concentrated on the new album "Rock Candy" with a few more familiar pieces from the previous "Greater than Gravity" record included.
Huge credit goes to the powerhouse drumming of Michael Hoy playing his first gig after only the 3 hour rehearsal.. .his playing was powerful and spot on throughout driving the band forward superbly.
Up front Michael was playing brilliantly, hard and powerful and ever creative and singing with power and assurance while Steve shone on bass, his playing absolutely outstanding throughout.
I had first seen the band in 2022 and we had become friends from there, and in a review i picked out Bowie's "Lets Dance" as a highlight... last night they revived the song for me and it was equally superb!! Steve even donned a pair of shiny red shoes for the gig!!
A treat to catch up with the guys again and both the band and Stevie Jones delivered outstanding sets to give us a superb evening... absolutely great night of top-notch music.
Keep music live... keep music real.. support your local venues
