WILD DAISY & THE BLACKHEARTS
Donkey Venue 7th September 2024
After a grey rainy day what better way to spend Saturday night than at The Donkey Venue to see the fabulous Wild Daisy & The Black Hearts
The band are a great southern rock band in the best traditions... rhythm section, two lead guitars and an exceptional singer.
Throughout the set the rhythm section (bass & drums) are solid, drive the beat and lay down a perfect base for the music... it is always good to see a drummer who plays with style and doesn't attempt to drown out the other musicians... up front both guitar players are absolutely superb... playing brilliantly and with taste throughout, delivering some cracking crisp guitar breaks without any self indulgence . Up front Hannah was singing up a storm and smiling throughout.
From the outset the band took the stage and without preamble or fanfare cracked into the opening "Tell it Like it Is" which set the standard... a superb opener and the pace never flagged throughout the best part of a couple of hours the band played.
The closing number of the first half featured lap-steel in full flight, and the band seemed so in the moment that Hannah went on to another lap-steel piece before taking the break... the second set then continued where the first left off... driving southern rock delivered with musical brilliance, style and great energy before closing with "Only Love" (any band who cover a Damn Truth song are alright by me!!) before coming back for a richly merited encore
This is a really superb band... five great musicians delivering hard rocking high quality music.. no egos, no self-indulgent soloing... just a tight band, high class rock music with no gimmicks, no fuss and no ego trips... all played by high class musicians, real people clearly loving every moment. Hannah is the perfect focus for the band... a great singer and performer...
No hiding it.. Wild Daisy & The Black Hearts are a terrific band and delivered a really superb set again last night... I believe the first time they had played a full two-set show... the quality and energy on stage was clear to everyone...I just love the band!!
And to crown it... what a lovely bunch of people!!!
