Keep music live... keep music real... support your local venue
I've always loved live music and went to a number of the pop package tours in the'60's... but my first proper gig was at DeMontfort Hall in Leicester in September 1969, featuring Terry Reid, Savoy Brown Blues band and headlined by Jethro Tull. At that time I knew I wanted to see every band and artist I could, and DeMont was one of the major venues on everyone's tour schedule... i was also a regular at a number of folk clubs, the Il Rondo, University gigs... as well as taking in a number of festivals and a load of Arena/Stadium gigs.. and saw countless bands, many of which are household names... or were household names then... a good many of which are absolute legends... and of course a large number I have totally forgotten, or at least tried to forget.
I had an enforced break from attending gigs but was able to resume towards the end of 2017... I have since then favoured supporting grass roots music venues and get to as many gigs as possible... going to see many totally new to me acts as well as many who are now very familiar and well loved.
I started photographing the bands at these venues at the time and posting a couple of pictures on facebook... but from early in 2023 decided to not only post the pictures, but to review the shows... offending a few on the way... but my reviews have to be honest appraisals... and my own opinions at the time. If i thought someone was not good I will always say so... Happily when it comes to seeing new acts I seem to have pretty good judgement, because i rarely see someone i don't like... there are some acts who are simply not working in a genre I particularly like or know about... and there i prefer to say something along the lines of
"not the genre for me, i cant comment"
So, this is it... these are the reviews i have shared on Facebook, with the bonus (?) of more pictures of the acts..
