Amy Dx/Becky Foord/Kenton Hall

AMY DX/BECKY FOORD/KENTON HALL
Duffys 13th June 2024

Another hugely enjoyable evening in DUFFY'S BAR, I believe we have Chris Ilett to thank for putting these evenings on... and there is always a lovely atmosphere.
Last nights show was opened by KENTON HALL... and a powerful theatrical performance it was too. Kenton seemed a bit nervous to begin with but grew in stature as the set progressed. I understand he used to be in a band, and the performance suggested rock roots. He performs his own songs, which are very high in angst and bite, and very good indeed, punctuating them with some amusing and at times ascerbic between song rants.
A very dramatic, entertaining and powerful performance well received by an appreciative audience, though to be honest, not really to my taste overall.

Next up was, in contrast, Becky Foord Music... Becky has a lovely voice and sings beautifully accompanying herself with some dextrous and gentle guitar work, very much in keeping with the songs. Becky performs predominantly her own songs, which are consistently thoughtful and well written, dealing mainly with her family and her life. She has a very relaxed style which really appeals, and generates a nice warmth with her performance. Impossible not to enjoy!
I've seen Becky a number of times now and think she just gets better and better... terrific set which again was loved by the audience.

Last up was Amy Dx, now playing solo. Amy has a strong and superb voice and is a fine singer. She played some familiar pieces, such as "We're only human" and "Worth" from her excellent album and the current single, "Parasite" as well as some new material including a very powerful and i believe personal song which she suggested may have been a one-off performance.
Amy can be very delicate but has power and a lot of emotion in her songs and voice... and puts a great deal into every performance. As ever with Amy, a hugely enjoyable excellent set... though if I was being ultra critical i think maybe her eagerness to play and the emotion with the songs led to diction being slightly less than it's usual immaculate level... but no matter... this was another quality performance by a very fine artist and cheered to the echo at the end
Thoroughly enjoyable and varied evening... Keep up the good work with these gigs Chris.
