Warner E Hodges Band/Conny Bloom Band

WARNER E HODGES BAND/CONNY BLOOM BAND
Musician Pub: 20th May 2024

Last night at the The Musician Pub we saw one of the hottest gigs imaginable...
Opening the show was the Conny Bloom Band. Conny previously played with the Electric Boys & Hanoi Rocks.
He is a terrific guitar player and delivered a really fabulous set supported by Jason Knight on bass and Shane Dixon on drums (more of those two later). The set took us through a range of material from the Electric Boys and solo material as well as some excellent covers, in particular a powerful version of "Sabre Dance" (Khachaturian/Dave Edmunds).
Conny not only plays great guitar but is a superb showman delivering an all action show that keeps the audience fully engaged and moving through out... absolutely terrific set by a superb musician.|

Many people spend hundreds of pounds to watch the likes of the Stones et al on big screens over the stage, but why? Come down to the Musician and catch a couple of hours of the best damn rock'n'roll band on the planet... the The Warner E. Hodges Band
Warner has been playing magnificent rock'n'roll for ages, along with the likes of Dan Baird, Georgia Satellites, Jason Ringenburg etc... and never fails to deliver a magnificent show... i dont think he is capable of delivering anything less then a magnificent show.
Supported by his regular band of Jason and Shane (who had played with Conny in the first set) and Ben Marsden on guitar Warner ripped through high powered blast of authentic exciting Nashville rock'n'roll.
If you've seen Warner's band before, you will know exactly what the gig delivered... if you haven't seen him, why not? you are missing an absolute rock'n'roll great.
No messing... the band hit the stage and belted into the first couple of pieces, rocking like crazy... they started full tilt and the momentum never slacked during the show... the band have a extensive magnificent repertoire and play material from Warner's career, including songs by Dan Baird and the Jason and the scorchers as well as his own songs... in particular my personal favourite "Gunslinger" as well as a piece from early in his career with they had revived at tea time on the day and learned within the couple of hours before the show... you wouldn't have guessed that from hearing it!!. Warner also delivers a range of covers, outstanding tonight was "Branded man" (Merle Haggard) which flowed and rocked beautifully and showed that there is a lot of country in warners roots...
Just when we thought things couldn't get hotter they brought Conny back to play with the band... and the volume, tempo and power rose several notches... .After this blitz of around 15 minutes Conny left the stage but the band continued at the same level of intensity and built up to a massive peak... at which point Conny returned to the stage for the absolutely full tilt (familair) closing sequence of "Country Roads" "Rockin' in the Free World" and "Fortunate Son" (John Denver/Neil Young and CCR respectively) which had the audience belting out the chorus's and bouncing...
Warners band... Jason must be the most energetic and eye catching bass player ever... never still, he bounces and rocks around like mad, leaping, bouncing and and going through a range of unlikely poses and moves throughout... more importantly.. he plays absolutely superbly. Jason is a dynamic and powerful bassist... with Shane drumming up a storm throughout and guitarist Ben plays wonderful guitar and also keeps moving and singing back-up.
As guitar slinger and rock band vocalist Warner himself is unsurpassed.
As ever, the band were supreme... high power, rocking like crazy and simply outstanding... a group of talented musicians playing their asses off and loving every moment... all smiling throughout and loving every moment... as did the ecstatic audience
Absolutely wonderful gig...
Keep on rockin in the free world...
Keep music live... Keep music real... support your local venues
