KATHRYN ROBERTS & SETH LAKEMAN
Musician Pub: 5th May 2024
Sunday evening at the The Musician Pub was simply wonderful. An evening with Kathryn Roberts & Sean Lakeman... quality, just quality!!
This duo are superb and they delivered a memorably beautiful show. They play a wide range of material from traditional songs, the oldest being a version of a 14th Century ballad and a song from the smutty aspect of the court of Elizabeth 1st as well as a couple of more contem-porary pieces by Sandy Denny & Les Barker as well as their own songs.
Highlights for me were two beautiful but poignant songs of Kathryn's "Herz52" about a whale whose signals were the wrong key to connect with other whales and a moving song about the pressures of the Miners Strikes. Both beautiful songs sung with huge tenderness and emotion by Kathryn
Sean is a remarkable guitar player, providing absolutely terrific guitar work throughout as well as perfect accompaniement for Kathryn's singing
Kathryn has a beautiful clear voice that can really move you with it's tenderness and can also inspire with it's strength and positivity. She also plays really fine piano on most of the songs... the others she sings just with Sean's guitar accompaniement
The couple are so assured, and so at home on the stage and have a wonderfully relaxed and warm manner on stage and it is impossible not to love them
As I said at the beginning... this was quality!! A superb gig
