KIRSTEN ANDERSON
The Musician 8th April 2024
Fabulous night at the The Musician Pub on Monday... a superb evening of country music provided by the fabulous Kirsten Adamson with her band the Tanager
It is not easy to think this band is from Scotland rather than Nashville... this was real country music with a huge flavour of Nashville.
Up front Kirsten plays guitar, has a gorgeous voice and sings with great feeling and joy and the band are exceptional... Jon MacKenzie (electric guitar) plays fluently with great style and taste, and also contributes mandolin on a couple of pieces. Richard Anderson (upright bass) plays with huge energy and style and adds some great almost gymnastic movements along with his playing, and also adds the high bluegrass style harmonies. Drummer Scott Forsyth actually plays the drums with great style and rhythm rather than clatters them... Three superb musicians on top of their game.
They play almost exclusively Kirtstens songs, which are often quite personal, but all have a very positive country feel... The songs are all top class, Kirsten's writing is the highest quality and has great variety and feel, and she sings them perfectly.
The other songs being a cover of her fathers' "Big Country" and a cover of a Justin Townes Earle song by the band without Kirsten
.
Kirsten and the band played with smiles and joy throughout which contributed fully to a hugely joyful and entertaining evening... one of the very best and most enjoyable gigs.
Kirsten Adamson is a terrific writer and singer and leads a highly talented band... a superb performance all round.
