GRUMPY O SHEEP
Musician Pub 1st April 2024
Monday night the The Musician Pub served up a truly memorable wonderful gig... a candidate for gig of the year. Grumpy O Sheep in simple terms are a duo playing guitar and fiddle and singing... but that doesn't begin to tell the story.
The duo from Belfort France
simply take the music and performance to several levels above a guitar/fiddle duo.
The duo play basically irtish music with colossal energy and passion... and musical brilliance. Their energy levels are simply boundless and although they speak little english there is virtually no chat between pieces, the rapport with the audience throughout is amazing. This is full tilt irish music, laced with flamenco guitar and the boundless spirit and joy of France... and it makes a fabulous intoxicating whole.
He plays guitar like no-one else i've ever seen... pounding irish rhythms with flamenco and percussion using the guitar as a hand drum while playing. He sings with huge energy and commitment, and sings irish songs in an irish way with a strong french accent.. the lyrics aren't always clear, but the overall effect is so uplifting... He also drives the rhythms providing rhythmic drumming with foot pedals.
She is a superb fiddle player, delivering the high octane tunes and rhythms with assurance colossal energy and crystal clear playing. She also added some vocals and harmonies.
The material was predominantly irish in nature, covering the Pogues "Sally MacLennane" and "The Irish Rover" as well as "Fire on the Mountain" and Bob Dylans "Hollis Brown".
It is hard to describe performance this outstanding... the duo are simply magnificent... superb, creative and original musicians, dynamic performers and an absolute joy to see and hear. They delivered a good two hours incredibly high energy wonderful music with a joy and energy that that you will seldom see bettered...
Absolutely superb performance... loved every minute of it. At the end had a chance to speak to a lot of the audience... and the words being used were universally "brilliant" "superb" "i loved it"...
If you weren't there you missed something very special.. .this was outstanding
