ROADRUNNER
The Donkey August 13th 2023
I had no intention of going out today, so, via a jazz event in town i found myself at The Donkey Venue to see a covers band, ROADRUNNER.
This band delivers what it says on the tin... they are a covers band... Having said that, they are a damn good covers band! They cover a terrific range of material from many sources, impossible to name them all, but the show included The Who, Stones, Kinks, Beatles, Steppenwolf, Canned Heat... you get the drift of what they are about?
They are terrific musicians... they don't slavishly copy the originals, but do Roadrunner versions of them. The guitar player rocks along a treat... recreating most of the licks and riffs we all love from the material covered...The bass player, i think schooled in the Entwhistle mould in that i don't think he actually moved during the gig, but simply played superbly with a wonderful tone and with the excellent drummer drove the beat throughout. The singer has a strong clear voice and handled all the material with great aplomb and style.
The band are high on energy, style and musicianship and delivered a thoroughly wonderful 140 minutes of rock classics... another quality gig!!
If i have one minor quibble it is that the walking into the audience playing can be dynamic but if overdone can be a trifle distracting... no matter... this was a damn good band delivering a damn good show
