DAWSON SMITH & THE DISSENTERS
The Donkey August 20th 2023
A special afternoon at the The Donkey Venue... the welcome return to the stage of Dawson Smith & the Dissenters... now augmented with Howard Smith on guitar... and what a glorious return it was.
The band was really on top form, delivering a terrific set of blues/rock/americana and the couple of hours flew by in a moment... this music really rocked.
The set was a mixed bag of originals, obscure covers and some classic covers, delving into the songbook of Creedence Clearwater Revival, the Rolling Stones, Rory Gallagher and others... but whatever the source of the music it was quintessentially Dawson and the Dissenters rocking away. I was resonally delighted to hear " American Cars" and " it aint the age it's the mileage", both long established in the repertoire but still sounding fresh as daisies today. This was music to get the feet moving and the dancers onto their feet.
I loved this performance, and speaking to others afterwards it was clear that they loved it tool...
An english summer... sunny afternoon... great friendly crowd.. many friends... beer... and some terrific music... as Dawson said "this is what it's all about"... what a great afternoon...
