Nathan Bell - Stevie Lawless

NATHAN BELL - STEVE LAWLESS
Musician Pub April 30th 2023

At the Musician Pub tonight for a gig that will live long in the memory... a wonderful, wonderful performance by the exceptional Nathan Bell. I had seen Nathan last year so there was no way i was going to miss this!!

Nathan is i guess a singer/songwriter... but that does not do it justice... his songs are all of the highest quality, often hard-hitting, tough but always excellent... he has a great voice and his guitar playing is superb... and he's no slouch when blowing a harp either...Not only is Nathan a great musician, but he has a wonderfully relaxed and endearing persona and is a terrific raconteur... on stage he has so much presence and charisma that he is totally riveting... absolutely magnificent set from a wonderful artist

Opening the show was STEVIE LAWLESS... a talented and hugely enjoyable singer/songwriter. The songs tend to the darker side of life, but are well crafted and always worth a listen. As always with Stevie an excellent and well received set

Multimorph - Moon Under Water

MULTIMORPH - MOON UNDER WATER
Musician Pub April 23rd 2023

Back at the The Musician Pub last night with a disappointingly small audience to catch a full set by the unique Multimorph. They a mesmerizing and very theatrical band witha highly charismatic leader in Maureen Anderson. The music is hard to define... spacey, psychedelic, shades of early Pink Floyd even... the overall feel is very ethereal leaving a warm glow... excellent!

The support act were Moon Under Water... sadly not to my taste...

Mysery Action - Blue Carpet Band

MYSTERY ACTION - BLUE CARPET BAND
Donkeym Venue April 21st 2023

To finish the day back to the The Donkey for a storming night of rock'n'roll...

I had no idea quite what to expect from the night... had heard very positive reviews of both bands... but hadn't heard either.. and i was blown away by it!!
First up was Blink's own band, Mystery Action... a hugely theatrical unclassifiable rock'n'roll band who delivered a real show... the band was tight, creative and simply wonderful!!

Then with little ado onto the The Blue Carpet Band... they had sounded great on soundcheck but forget that... once they kicked into the set they were simply phenomenal... high energy, high pace loud'n'proud rock'n'roll to shake the rafters. Musical spot on they rocked through a series of shortish sharp songs and the pace and energy never relented... vocalist Djamel Abina simply defied all natural laws by leaping, dancing and bouncing for the entire performance while managing to sing with power and authority without seemingly having any breath issues!!... to crown it after the band left the stage he carried on and delivered two jazz standards acapella... and delivered them incredibly well....
THis was a glorious evening, two really great bands delivering high octane rock'n'roll... and there is no better way to take in your R'R than in a terrific small venue like this...
Loved the evening!!

Nina Anastasia/Mountaintop Junkshop

NINA NASTASIA/MOUNTAIN TOP JUNKBAND
Musician Pub April 16th 2023

Another day, another gig at the The Musician Pub... this time to see the the wonderful Nina Nastasia... a new name to me but one i will follow from now.

A couple of lines into the first song i was hooked on her voice... Nina has a simply beautiful voice that can rise and fall with consummate ease. The songs are beautifully crafted, lyrically superb and tell her stories to perfection... this was a beautifully chilled and totally beautiful performance... a total delight from start to finish.

Opening act were a local country band, MOUNTAINTOP JUNKBAND... to be honest, not to my taste... but Nina Nastasia, pure delight, pure gold...
