NATHAN BELL / KARYN A / LIBBY

Last night the The International Music Venue hosted a performance by simply the best singer/songwriter, performer/raconteur around... NATHAN BELL
But first things first... the show was opened by two fine local artists... first up was LIBBY... Libby is an ucompromising writer and performer with a fine strong voice and she delivers her songs with conviction and great passion... the songs are often very personal and challenging.. always full of interest. Sure there were a couple of mistakes in there, but this was only her 5th gig ever... and she did a really great job.
Next up the excellent KARYN A (K.Z. Aviani). Karen has a lovely sweet voice and uses it beautifully to deliver her songs. As she said, she started off with the cheerier song then the songs became sadder as she went on.. sadder, maybe... but equally strong and high class.. I particularly loved a beautiful delicate song that she played finger picking where the quality of her voice shone. Excellent set from an excellent performer

Topping the bill.. someone I have longed to see again since the previous time... Nathan Bell from Tennessee.
Nathan has everything... a fabulous voice that highlights all the emotions in his songs.. the songs themselves are all masterpieces, talking often of the human condition and state of the world, focusing on America, and becoming political through that rather than being overtly political. Between songs he chats easily, often making a strong serious point with humour and is a superb story teller and raconteur... his guitar playing has to be seen and heard to believe.... absolutely phenomenal...
As Nathan comes onto the stage and carefully organises his harps, picks etc and sits and settles himself some magnetism has the whole audience on board with him immediately... and as he goes through his set he has the wrapt attention of everyone in the room..
This guy is the real deal, authentic, performing with total assurance and conviction throughout... an absolutely brilliant performance, one of the best i've ever seen, from a true master of the art... and llast night he delivered little short of 90 minutes of pure magic
Already looking forward to seeing Nathan again next year
