Celestar Coco/Karen MacLeod/Emarly Sisters/Keverley Brothers/Adam Newman Turner

CELESTAR COCO/KARENMacLEOD/TWISTED WIDOW /KEVERLEY BROTHERS/ADAM NEWMAN TURNER
Duffy's 4th December 2025

Last night at Duffy's Bar for the last Botheration of the year... and a fun and slightly bizarre evening it was!!
First up was the first recorded banjo player at a Botheration... Adam Newman Turner.. and a fine player he proved to be, also very entertaining... very much a country musician he delivered a short but very enjoyable set.. and anyone referencing the Carter Family can't be bad!!... Would have like to have heard more of him.

After Adam, a really bizarre but hugely enjoyable section... Adam came back with Kevin for only the second ever gig by the Keverley Brothers... the previous gig was 49 years ago... and they duetted in the style of a more famous act who nicked thier style and most of their name... and featured some very familiar material... starting with "Love Hurts" and"Ebony Eyes" during which the solemnity was somewhat disrupted by Kevin bursting out in hysterical laughter and fighting to control himself.. .i can't say this was the slickest or most professional act i've seen, but it was certainly one of the most unexpected and enjoyable... lets hope we dont have to wait 49 years for the 3rd gig!! Loved it...

Next up were another couple of very familar faces in a new combination.. the Emarly Sisters (soon to be renamed Twisted Widows) who continued with a short but hugely enjoyable set, following the Keverleys, concentrating on the gloomy.. and ending with a christmas carol... "Silent Night". The songs may have not been upbeat, but were delivered with joy and passion.. and i hugely enjoyed it!!... i look forward to seeing them again and seeing where this partnership leads..

After this, sanity returned to the stage in the form of the brilliant Karen Macleod. Karen is a superb finger-picking blues player who is also blessed with a great voice and sings beautifully.. She delivered, as always, a superb set of acoustic blues, mainly old timey blues material but including at least one original song.
Karen is a really class act and I could listen to her playing for far longer than the allotted set time... superb and delightful set, as always!!

Finally, a complete contrast in the shape of Celestar Coco, a name i know well but hadn't seen before, though two of the members are familiar from solo projects.
The set seemed to have two distinct phases, the first set was poppy/rocky with the excellent Libby handling the vocals... well crafted fine songs sung really well with a really fine band.
The second half of the set Chloe took over the vocals, and the band became rockier, with Chloe demonstrating a great rock voice and singing... and the band showed how to rock.. .
Really great band, i really enjoyed both aspects of the performance and look forward to seeing them again sometime soon
Keep music live... keep music real... support your local venues
