EDGAR BROUGHTON/ROBYN GAIR/MR PLOW/KEVIN HEWICK
Duffys: 6th November 2025
Another "First Thursday" and another Botheration at Duffy's Bar... they are always lovely evenings but this one was just wonderful... Four solo artists, all playing acoustic and all on the top of their game...
As ever, first up was Kevin Hewick... what can you say more about him... Kevin was Kevin!! and bang of form. Strong powerful voice, great guitar work and as ever quality songs... he also managed a Moody Blues Tribute... In Search of the Lost Chord... in the last song!! As ever he managed some entrertaining banter/rambling and delivered on of his best sets here....
Next up was MR PLOW... playing a rare solo spot. I wasnt sure what to expect, but he delivered in style... anyone starting with a John Prine song is good for me... especially following it with a Kirsty MacColl... loovely set, very country styled, good voice and fine choice of songs delivered with authority and quality... thoroughly enjoyed it
Next was a new name to me... Robyn Gair. I had heard recommendations about her from a couple of musicians who's taste i trust... but the reality exceeded expectation... After donning a false mustache and handing tache's out to the audience Robyn settle into her set and wow... she has a lovely voice, sings beautifully and plays great guitar. Her songs are strong and well worth hearing, and all delivered with great personality and assurance... absolutely lovely set, enjoyed every moment
Finally... it's not often you get to sit within a few feet of a hero... a legend... while he plays a set... but that is exactly what happened last night as the great EDGAR BROUGHTON took the stage... hadnt see him for so many years and you wondered if he could still deliver the same way... one line into the first song it was clear he can... and does... the voice was powerful, strong and clear and the guitar playing absolutely top class... of course the songs were superb, sad, thought provoking and wonderful... and all delivered in his great voice, along with some superb storytelling.
The man delivered a superb set, and has charisma and stage presence to spare.
Absolute joy and privilege to be there to see him... absolutely magical...
a wonderful end to a really high class evening...
