TO BE FRANK - A DOCUMENTARY FILM
Pheonix arts 10th September 2025
A rare visit to the Pheonix last night to see the premier of Steve Baker's first full length documentary film, "To be Frank" charting the career and struggles of Frank Benbini from council estate to the world stage.
The film tells the story primarily in a series of talking heads with Frank and his friends and colleagues as well as some fine stage and studio music sequences. It highlights the highs and lows of life in rock'n'roll including the fun and excitement of life on the road as well as the loneliness and crippling anxieties of the life. Aside from that there is a lot of humour and pathos along with the rock'n'roll lifestyle.
The film moves along with pace and gives a superb insight into what a life in rock'n'roll is really like.. hugely revealing and insightful as well as very entertaining.
Beautifully filmed and paced, a real quality piece of work. I really loved it, and judging by the comments I was hearing afterwards, so did everyone else!!
Frank currently plays with Fun Loving Cannibals, UB40, Uncle Frank and Radio Riddlers
As an afterthought... what a joy to sit in a venue with comfortable seats!!
