Josienne Clarke

JOSIENNE CLARKE
Musician Pub 11th November 2024

Another new name to me at The Musician Pub tonight... but one i will look out for in the future... Josienne Clarke.
Josienne is a singer/songwriter, performing both her own songs and a number of traditional songs, specialising in sad songs and her own songs are well crafted and high quality.
She opened with the traditional song "Silver Dagger" and by the end of the first line I was in awe of her voice... echoes of early Joan Baez singing the same song but unmistakably Josienne. After this the first of her own songs, and the voice had changed slightly with definite shades of The Lady... indeed she spoke of a tour next year doing purely Sandy Denny covers, as she said a coat that fits her well.
Later in the set Josienne delivered the one actual cover, Joni's "Both Sides Now" which she delivered absolutely beautifully... maintaining the feel and meaning of the song, but also stamping her own style onto it.
Throughout, the voice is pure, clear and simply stunning delivering the sad songs with compassion and real beauty... the guitar work seems relatively simple but is the perfect accompaniment to the voice and songs.
Maybe not the gig to go to if you need laughs and uplifting jollity... but a simply beautiful evening of sad songs exquisitely performed by a superb performer with a sublime voice.
Sit and listen... the voice draws you in and soothes creating a warmth and glow that is totally captivating.
Simply superb and beautiful evening
