BASKERY
Musician Pub 6th November 2024
Last night at The Musician Pub Baskery smashed it with a stunning performance...
As ever a Baskery gig takes you on a world tour featuring music from, or in the style of, a host of cultures... each one different put purely Baskery.
This was the opening night of the tour and the band were playing superbly and judging by their expressions loving it... as much as the audience were...
After a couple of great up tempo pieces they slowed it down a bit to cover Neil Young's "Heart of Gold"... they talked of a Neil Young covers album... before striking up tempo again... Each singer has a great voice and the harmonies are terrific... especially when they performed a frivolous song acapella in their own language...just beautiful!! Musically the band are so exciting and different, Sunniva excelling on both acoustic and electric guitars and hopping onto the bass drum, Greta playing great banjo with her hands and thumping drums with her feet simultaneously while Stella performs miracles pounding away brilliantly on the double bass... a unique and invigorating musical mix.
As the first half closed the crowd drew breath thinking that set was superb, that will take some following!!.. i felt the band were playing harder and better than i'd seen them before.
As the second half started they cranked up the power and intensity of the music even further, and rocked harder...
They then returned to the Neil Young songbook for one of my favourite Young songs, "Down by the River"... They had rocked hard throughout the set... but this piece took it to even greater heights... you had to feel the power to believe it... as Stella's bass playing took on even more power and dexterity... Sunniva excelled with some simply magnificent powerful guitar work and Greta contributed some staggering slide banjo and guitar as well as her stomping drums... we thought they had rocked throughout the set but this just took it to new levels... they then followed this with a number they said they would play as fast as they could... and they did... an absolute powerhouse shaking the floor and all but lifting the roof... so closed a really sensational performance... an absolute powerhouse of indefinable rocking music...
Absolutely magnificent thrilling performance by a hugely talented band.
I, and everyone else, was blown away by it
