LOOMA/FIELDWORK
Musician Pub 2nd JULY 2024
First up was Looma, playing as a trio due to Mark being unwell, and they delivered an excellent set. Starting with a set of tunes featuring Liz on accordion with Tim on fiddle and Bob on guitar.
Bob has a catalogue of hundreds of excellent songs, and next up was a classic of his (sadly i can't think of the name!!) which was delivered with great style before another Looma classic, "The Dinghieshowe Dancers" again featuring Liz's fine accordian playing,
They finished a short but excellent set with Bob leading on their version of the old blues classic "Candy Man".
Great set to get the evening of to a lovely start,
After the break Tim was back up with his previous band, FIELDWORK, re-united for the gig after some 20 years. For many it was nostalgia to see a much loved band playing together again... i hadn't seen them before so for me it was an introduction to a really great band.
Four fine musicians on top form and clearly loving the re-union, as was the audience.
They treated us to a range of songs from their past, some originals, some their interpretation of classic folk songs and poems, each one delivered with great quality and energy.
The band are all fine musicians multi-instrumentalists... Patrick (fiddle, mandolin, percuission) Tim (cittern, guitar, fiddle, percussion) Dave (guitar, percussion) and William (percussion, harmonium) and the ease with which they swapped instruments kept the sound wonderfully varied.
The whole set was beautifully paced and hugely enjoyableand the range of material excellent.
This was very much a band perfromance, but i was mesmerised by the range and variety of the percussion deployed by William, especially his home made wooden instrument which sounded like a beautiful mellow xylophone... but the whole band were excellent... contributing equally to a really great performance...
I absolutely loved them!!
