MICHAEL MORROW & THE CULPRITS

Sometimes you go to a gig on a hunch... i got a ticket for this because the blurb sounded interesting and I liked the name... then a couple of people told me "do not miss this band"
So, tonight at The Musician Pub we saw the awesome Michael Morrow & The Culprits on their first visit to the UK.
This was a truly wonderful gig... the band play rock'n'roll as it should always be played... loud, fast and full of joy...
Brilliant musicianship all the way. Chris sits at the back behind his drum kit and drives the beat with precision and energy... up front Steve's bass pushes it along rhythmically and with style, and takes the lead vocal on some pieces, while Michael plays brilliant guitar and sings... speaking of guitars... that big red Gretsch is a thing of beauty.
The band play a a fair few of their own original compositions... and all fine songs they are... and a number of covers... tonight delving into the songbooks of Ted Nugent, Joe Walsh, Talking Heads, The Clash and others.
The set starts with a blitz of rock'n'roll and continues in that vein... powerful... rocking and exhilarating... rock'n'roll as it should be played, with no fuss or trickery, just damn great music delivered with style energy and panache...
This was a really terrific show delivered by a superb band... not only that they are three of the nicest guys you'll ever meet...
Do yourself a favour... go see this band... buy their music... buy their merchandise... they are worth every penny...
and please if you can buy the physical CD's as the guys will get something from that... as Michael said in the closing song "Rock'n'Roll aint never paid my Bills"... and it ended a fabulous concert by a great band
