Jim Jones All Stars/Pearl Hart

JIM JONES ALL STARS/PEARL HART
Musician Pub20th October 2023

Friday night is party night at the The Musician Pub

Proceedings started tonight with a guitar/vocal & drum/vocal duo called PEARL HARTS., a new name to me. They started with a bang and gave us a 30 minute set that was somewhere between rock and punk... a high energy performance delivered with assurance and style and went down well with the audience.
Very good start to the evening.

I am at a loss how to review the headline band, JIM JONES ALL STARS. An 8-piece rock'n'roll band featuring drums, bass, guitar, keyboards and brass as well as vocals. They started at full tilt and the pace and energy never dropped. There was no room for subtlety or finesse in the show and it was not a show consider instrumental or vocal skills... it was about the energy and rock'n'roll. For me the overall effect was simply confused and over busy with all of the musicians going full tilt for the full hour.
I really don't know what the pieces played were, i think they were mainly originals, but I think I heard "Parchman Farm" and the Velvets "Run Run Run" in there.
I am a huge fan of bands playing loud rock'n'roll with energy, assurance and commitment as this band did... but somehow for me those factors totally outweighed the music...
The band did however have most people dancing along and went down incredibly well with the large and enthusiastic audience.
Not for me a particularly good band, and i wouldn't go to see them again... but despite it all overall i did enjoy the performance .

Keep music live.. keep music real... support your local venue
