SOUND OF SIRENS
International Music Venue 23rd January 2026
My visit visit of the year to the International Music The International Music Venue for what was a superb performance by Sound of the Sirens.
An acoustic duo of Abbe Wood (guitar, mandolin, kick drum, vocals) and Hannah Walker (guitar, piano, kick drum, vocals) playing their own superb often personal and homely songs in a beautifully individual style.
The two guitars merge beautifully throughout giving a a superb background to the high class vocals. Both ladies have great voices and sing superbly, their voices blending beautifully with some wonderful harmonies.
The music is often gentle and folky in feel but they also deliver very high energy almost rocking pieces, also accompanied by one or two kick drums, which drive along with great spirit and pace.
For me one of the main features of a Sound of Sirens performance, along with the superb musicianship, vocals and songs, is the wonderful spirit of Abbe and Hannah... both full of personality and charisma, clearly loving playing together and being together, and happy to share jokes and tales throughout the show. The total joy within the duo transfers instantly and the audience is instantly brought under the joyful spell generated on stage.
This was a superb performance, beautifully balanced and paced set ending with some especially high enegy pieces.
A totally uplifting joyful performance delivered by a hugely talented and engagin duo... absolutely love the gig... and an early contender for gig of the year...
