Albany Down @ Musician: 30th June 2023

ALBANY DOWN
Musician Pub June 30th 2023

Tonight at the The Musician Pub we had ALBANY DOWN doing an album launch gig. I have seen the band before and realised I couldn't remember anything at all about them... even when they walked on. That should have told me something.

First the positives... I am sure the musicians are all perfectly competent... however... this was a routine set of rock music with nothing to distinguish it from countless other average bands... the whole Iacked any light and shade or personality. The band felt totally distanced from the audience (and each other) and made no attempt to communicate... even mumbling "thank you" and introducing the songs no-one actually looked at the audience let alone tried to communicate... utterly turgid performance by a band i will not be going to see again
however...

Pete Morton - Sheila Moseley

PETE MORTON - SHEILA MOSELEY
Musician Pub June 29th 2023

Now, that was really my cup of tea at The Musician Pub tonight... much as I love music across a whole range of genres tonights performance by Leicesters Pete Morton ticked all the boxes for me... Pete is a total performer, seems born to be on stage. His performances are always massively assured, confident, passionate and warm. The songs range from traditional, tender, political, social commentary and amusing... all display great passion, compassion and integrity and are delivered with great power, energy and warmth. It is impossible to see a Pete Morton gig without getting totally engaged in it.

Highlights were many, but for me, "Yemeni Moon", "Another Train" and "When we Sing Together" stood out and will i think stay with me for a long time...
Superb performance... loved every minute

Support was provided by Sheila Moseley who opened the evening with a set of mainly very familiar songs from my youth... an enjoyable set but slightly disadvantaged I think by a bit of rust from not playing much recently.

LoneHollow @ Musician: 26th June 2023

LONEHOLLOW
Musician Pub June 26th 2023

Just what the Doctor ordered tonight... a beautiful set of country/americana delivered by Rylie Bourne (vocals/guitar) and Damon Atkins (guitar/vocals) collectively LoneHollow

Rylie and Damon brought a huge slice of rollicking acoustic county/americana from Nashville... and wonderful it was... Rylie has such a wonderful voice and sings beautifully... indeed she delivered the best damn version of "Jolene" i've heard.. slowing it down a shade from the original and it was magnificent. Damon also sings in a more powerful voice and the two work together perfectly... Damon also plays fine guitar...
After such a beautiful thoroughly enjoyable show, i think we were all rather surprised by the appearance of a Skynyrd song as the encore... but extremely good it was...
This duo are terrific...and will hopefully be back

Bo'Weevil Brothers - Howling Matt

BO'WEEVIL BROTHERS - HOWLIN MATT
Musician Pub June 23rd 2023

What a night this was... a superb night. Opened up by HOWLING MATT who delivered an absolutely great set of blues, playing both guitar and cigar box and as well as singing. A new name to me, but looking out for more gigs... this guy was terrific!!

After Matt, the main event... The Bo' weevil Brothers delivering a scorching set of stomping country hillbilly blues... The music is totally magical, hugely infectious and wonderful.. .you cant help but feel good listening to this stuff. A really fine band at the top of their game... by the time Matt joined them on stage for the finale both Al and nick were standing as the music got even hotter, a mississippi swamp rock'n'roll.

I my be biased, but the The Bo' weevil Brothers are superb... you just have to see them to understand just how damn good they are

Kossoff - The Band Plays On

KOSSOFF/THE BAND PLAYS ON
Musician Pub JUNE 22ND 2023

Not many things are guaranteed... but one certainty is that Kossoff - The Band Plays On will deliver a superb all power show whenever you see them... and last night at the The Musician Pub they did just that. Four supreme musicians at the peak of their form delivering a magnificent set of Free & Back Street Crawler songs.

Although the songs are all familiar, and old friends, but this is no nostalgia or tribute show... the band are vibrant, contemporary and incredibly powerful...
First time i saw this band they were superb, and however often i see them i swear they get better!... to be honest i enjoy their shows more than i did the original band Free!
Simply colossal performance... and they are back later in the year!
